Removing Your Location from Facebook

Time and time again, Facebook has introduced new "features" without notifying its users.  And they go by an automatic opt-in policy, meaning that you have to opt-out rather than opt-in to the new "feature". The problem is that they don't let you know they are doing this, so there isn'y even an up front opt-out, you usually have to go digging through the settings once you find out something is happening.

Today, as I posted a new status, I realized that it posted the city I was in while posting....not cool Zuckerberg!  So, if you want to turn this off, here is how:

You can check if you are victim of this by going to your Facebook profile and clicking checking your posts.  Look for this at the bottom:

If you start typing a new status, you will see your city at the bottom in a little box.  Very easy to miss it.  If you hover over it you can click the "x" to remove it.

It should like like this after, meaning your location isn't posted:

As for posting from a mobile OS, simply go to your phone preferences and turn off location services for the Facebook app.  In fact, turn off location services for every app that doesn't need to know where you are (maps, gps, something that sees where you are and then gives you local options (yelp, fandango))

Happy Internets!
