How to Manage All Those Passwords

With the growth of the Internet and all the services on the web that we use, we all end up having a long list of usernames and passwords that we have to keep up with.  So how in the world can we possibly keep up with all of these accounts?  This is how most people do it:

1.) They use an easy password that they can remember.  Something that relates to their life, like a child's name, pet's name, favorite sports team, etc.  Usually something that can be guessed by someone that knows a bit about you. I know, I have done it. They then proceed to use this same password on every single website.  Bad idea!!  If one of these sites gets compromised, which happens more often than you think, then they will have access to your account across the board.  See this article to get scared about this.

2.) They keep them all in a text document stored on their computer with some "clever" naming scheme to hide it.  Like storing it in their documents and calling it "Birthday Party".  This file gets in the wrong hands, you are done.

3.) They write it down. This is the worst. Don't do it.

So, how do you keep up with the passwords in a way that is secure and easy?

Good news for you, I have a solution.

It is called LastPass.  It manages all your accounts in a secure vault and automatically populates the login information when you go to those sites to login.

This service has been vetted by security experts across the board.  It gets many glowing recommendations.  As an IT guy, I strongly recommend it.

Here is my post on how to Download and Install LastPass.

If you don't use my instructions, then please use this link to download so I get credit.
