Recently, there has been an outbreak of Cholera that is impacting the small nation, killing and frightening and already broken people. Cholera is an infectious bacteria that causes severe diarrhea and vomiting, that leads to dehydration that can cause death in just a few hours. Luckily it is easily treatable once it is diagnosed by rehydrating the patient, usually with IV fluids. The problem in Haiti is that hygiene is low, the locals don't have proper understanding of how the disease spreads, and the sanitation in the markets is very poor. The death toll is over 1,700 and rising! Samaritan's Purse has diverted its staff to support the Cholera epidemic, providing more water filters, sanitation stations and education, and most of all, medical facilities and staff. Even though we are building temporary treatment facilities and placing medical personnel in them, we remain at full capacity and understaffed.
Samaritan's Purse needs your help! We need medical professionals to serve with us in haiti on a short term basis. If you or anyone you know may be interested in serving the people of Haiti, please send them to our website to register, link here. Please, please pass this on to anyone that may be able to help. If you can't serve here, consider supporting the effort financially, and above all else, continue to remember these people in prayer. Before closing this, please take a look at the following two stories.
